The Institute of Applied Technology brings together the School of Health Sciences and the School of Technical Studies at its Matasia campus in Ngong, Kajiado County. Our programmes emphasise supervised practical training through skills laboratories, clinical attachments, workshops, and field practice.

Our story

Brief history

The Institute of Applied Technology (IAT) trains students for practical careers in plant operation, engineering trades, and related applied fields. Our Ngong–Matasia campus sits along the Ngong–Kiserian Road in Lower Matasia (opposite Tuskys Supermarket Matasia), serving trainees from across Kenya.

IAT’s slogan — Opening new Horizons — reflects our focus on hands-on skills with modern machinery and industry-aligned programmes. Intakes run regularly, with many technical cohorts reporting in the first week of each month.

Thank you for choosing the Institute of Applied Technology, Matasia Campus.

Classes run Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Trainees report every first week of the month. Please bring the documents listed in our joining instructions, complete registration, and follow the official fee payment channels only — Family Bank or Lipa Na M-PESA Paybill 830669.

We provide hostel beds, overalls, and mattresses where applicable. Special diets require a medical certificate. Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. We wish you a successful training period.

Frequently asked questions

What qualifications does IAT offer?

IAT offers diploma and certificate programmes in health sciences and technical studies, including nursing, perioperative theatre technology, clinical medicine, health services support, driving, plumbing, and survey.

What are the intake dates?

Intakes are in January, May, and September. Specific programme availability varies per intake.

What are the entry requirements?

Requirements vary by programme. Health sciences diplomas generally require KCSE mean grade C (plain) with relevant science subjects. Technical programmes typically require a KCSE certificate or equivalent.
